If I had to describe myself in one sentence it would be; Enneagram type 2 goofball, a marathoner (Netflix and 26.2 miles), and an emotional human with an equal love for coffee, pizza, group exercise classes, and social media.
I’m a twenty-something living with my fiancé in Pittsburgh, PA — though, London + Chicago have pieces of my heart + I’ll forever be convincing my partner to move either place with me.
I’m not new to the blogging game — in fact, I’ve been blogging for various sites for 6+ years now. But, I’ve never fully committed to having my own blog that’s written, published + managed by me.
So, why create one now? The easy answer? I enjoy writing, researching, and sharing content I’m passionate about. The true reason though is I want to have a place to share my deepest thoughts + stories. No, seriously. Over the past year or so I’ve realized the importance of sharing my story + have found peace when I share, rather than when I bottle things up. I want a space I can keep all of my thoughts, feelings, struggles, and successes to look back on with pride as I see how much I’ve grown.
About ashleigh
Busybee.inthecity started out on Instagram, all the way in 2014, as my “inchaarg” instagram. For those of you not in CHAARG, this account was made to connect to the CHAARG community, both within my chapter at Pitt and with the national community at over 80 schools. For 5 years, I used @ashleigh_inchaarg to share my deepest thoughts + feelings — truly sharing myself with the world. From my very first 5k race and my semester abroad to my battle with an eating disorder and my struggle living with depression, this account was my place to vent, sharing my struggles + successes.
I had another instagram, which I followed those in my life outside of CHAARG, but I always felt like I was living some double life. The truth was, the posts on my inchaarg account was who I really wanted to be known for, not the “highlight reel” on my original account. So, in 2018, I said goodbye to my personal account + solely posted on the inchaarg account. I no longer wanted to solely be identified with CHAARG, though.
Why “busybee.inthecity”?
I’d always related to the “busy” mindset — having a job and multiple internships, exec positions in multiple clubs, training for marathons, and oh yeah, being a full-time student — I was constantly go-go-go. So, when I was trying to come up with a new handle, busy kept running through my mind — busybee came soon after as that’s honestly just a cute saying. Once I realized every rendition of “busybee” was taken on Instagram already, I started thinking of words that rhymed — busybeeashleigh, ashleighthebusybee — then city came up + I honestly was mad it took me so long to rhyme bee with city.
I’m often asked “whAT aBouT WhEN u MoVE tO thE SubUrBs” to which I think it won’t matter. Living in a city will always be a part of me — from living in Pittsburgh all throughout college (+ now in post-grad) to studying abroad in London for 3.5 months — cities are my home…. and Spencer knows I will never be able to live more than 30 minutes away from one so I think I’m safe ; )
